COLOUR AND GRAPHIC DESIGN

Using colour in your graphic design and corporate identity.

The use of colour in your graphic design or corporate branding can make a very important statement about your companies intensions/aspirations.

Using bright colours will certainly attract attention, but too much colour can make elements of design appear over-stated. The best analogy of this are high street shops; the most expensive shops never have “Sale Now On!” posters plastered everywhere during clearance events, instead they will always opt for something quite discrete but passing customers will notice it immediately as it will stand out against what is traditionally a clean/crisp scene.

Using a very muted colour pallet will have the complete opposite effect - it will be very hard to get your brand noticed in a very crowded environment, however, when isolated, people will become naturally inquisitive. Imagine a black business card with an embossed black logo - when amongst a stack of cards it will be lost, but when someone comes across the card it will stand out against the others as it is so different and because the logo isn’t immediately presented, people will naturally spend more time looking at the card - it will become a memorable factor.

To make the most out of colour your graphic designer should asses your target market and how you want to approach it.
